How long is the drive from West Warwick to the shop?
About fifteen minutes, give or take Route 2 traffic near the Warwick Mall. From Arctic, head east and pick up Route 2 north; you’ll ride it past the mall, past Garden City, and onto Reservoir Avenue without a single highway merge. If you’re near the Warwick line, I-95 north to Route 10 is about the same.
Before you leave Arctic, a short packing list:
- Government photo ID
- Reference images on your phone, or send them with the booking
- A meal in you and a water bottle
- Loose clothes that clear the placement
- Headphones, if you go quiet when it stings
Why drive past closer shops for Chris?
Because you’re not buying a tattoo, you’re buying a drawing you’ll carry around, and drawings vary. Chris’s are fun, surreal and animated: a ship sailing out of a teacup, a snake threading through anemones, a skeleton hand in neon. If that’s the sensibility you want, fifteen minutes up Route 2 is a bargain.
West Warwick is the youngest town in Rhode Island, carved out of Warwick in the early twentieth century around the mills on the Pawtuxet, and the Royal Mills at Riverpoint are lofts now. The point stands, though: craft is craft, and you can tell when someone has put in the years. Chris came up tattooing in West Texas and around Atlanta before settling in Rhode Island full time.
What does Chris like to draw?
Animals with expressions, plants that glow, objects doing things objects don’t do. He works in illustrative, neo-traditional and new-school, color or black-and-grey, and he draws custom from your idea. Pet portraits, birds of every kind, cartoon characters from your childhood and botanical work all show up regularly in the portfolio.
Style pages: illustrative, neo-traditional, new-school, and cover-ups if there’s an old tattoo in the way. The portfolio filters by style, and it’s a better argument than anything written here.
