How do I get from East Providence to Powerline Tattoo?

Cross the river and head south. I-195 west takes you over the Washington Bridge into Providence, I-95 south carries you through the city, and Route 10 peels off near the Cranston line and ends on Reservoir Avenue. About fifteen minutes when the bridge behaves, which is worth checking before you leave.

Washington Bridge traffic has been a moving target for a couple of years, so if the westbound side is jammed, the Henderson Bridge into the East Side and down through the city is a reasonable detour. From Riverside, Route 103 or the Wampanoag Trail gets you to I-195. From Rumford, Taunton Avenue does. Street and lot parking are both available; confirm when you book.

What should I know before my appointment?

Three things. Powerline is appointment-only, Monday through Saturday, so there’s a set time waiting for you. You’ll need a government-issued photo ID, no exceptions. And a tattoo takes as long as it takes: eat first, bring water, and don’t plan to be back on the East Bay Bike Path that afternoon.

Fresh tattoos don’t like sweat, sun or saltwater, and East Providence has all three close at hand. A summer concert at Bold Point Park is fine; a swim off Sabin Point is not, for a couple of weeks. The aftercare page spells it out.

Which style fits my idea?

Bring the idea and let the style follow. Chris specializes in illustrative, neo-traditional and new-school, all with a fun, surreal, animated feel, and most ideas have a natural home in one of them. A pet portrait leans illustrative; a bold bird or botanical leans neo-traditional; a cartoon or an object with attitude leans new-school.

The portfolio shows all of it side by side, and the carousel horses at Crescent Park are proof that Riverside already appreciates a hand-carved thing.
